Latin America and Caribbean (LAC) Offices: Costa Rica, Bolivia and Brazil

San Jose, Costa Rica


Gerardo Aguilar, E+Co Latin America and Caribbean Regional Manager, with direct responsibility over the offices in Costa Rica, Brazil and Bolivia. After obtaining his MBA in 1994, Mr. Aguilar started working as credit officer in Banco BFA, currently Banco Cuscatlán. Two years later, he joined Asesoría Empresarial Centroamericana (ASECA), affiliated to the IFC (World Bank) and performed deal consulting and structuring that closed more than US$10 million in deals. In 1998, he joined the British Commonwealth Development Corporation, known as CDC Capital, as Senior Executive for Central America and then was promoted to Manager. He closed and managed equity investments for more than US$25 million. He participated as a Board member in various important businesses in Central America. In January 2005, Gerardo joined E+Co’s team. Mr. Aguilar holds a BA in Administration from the University of Costa Rica and an MBA in Finance from the Southern Illinois University, Carbondale.

Wilhem Baumgartner, a Senior Investment Officer for E+Co LAC, has more than 10 years experience in managing and administrating investment portfolios in Central America and the Caribbean. He started his professional career working as a Credit Executive in CORMAR, the leading freightforwarder, customs brokerage and warehousing company in Central America. Mr. Baumgartner later worked as Project Executive for Corporación Privada de Inversiones (CPI), a development bank financed by the US Agency for International Development. Prior to joining E+Co-LAC, Mr. Baumgartner was the Senior Project Executive for Corporación Financiera Ambiental (CFA), a venture capital fund, financed by Interamerican Development Bank (IDB) and other highly regarded multilateral organisms. While working for CFA he managed an investment portfolio in different environmental sectors within Central America. Mr. Baumgartner holds a Bachelor´s degree in Business Administration from Universidad de Costa Rica and an MBA from INCAE (Instituto Centroamericano de Administracion de Empresas).

Eduardo Fallas Investment Officer for E+Co LAC. Prior to joining E+Co, Mr. Fallas was a Financial Specialist at Corporate Finances of Central America (FCCA), a regional investment banking firm. At FCCA, he was part of the team that closed several transactions in Costa Rica, including mergers and acquisitions, public offerings and other advisory services led by the firm, all of which total more than US$25 million. Eduardo started his career as a Credit Officer at Banco Banex, owned by Banistmo, one of the largest Central American banks. While working for Banex, he participated in two due diligence processes which resulted in the buyouts of Banco BGA in Honduras and Banco Bancrecen in Costa Rica. He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from University of Costa Rica and is currently completing his MBA thesis at the same university.

Cynthia León is an Investment Officer for Central America. Before joining E+Co, she worked for Bancomer Stockbroker House and BFA Valores as a stockbroker’s assistant. She also worked for Banco Centroamericano de Integración Económica as an Administrative Assistant, where she developed high organizational skills. Mrs. León completed courses on International Relations from Universidad Autónoma de Centroamerica and also English courses from Florida International University and Miami Community College. Mrs. León is currently studying Portuguese.

Karla González is E+Co-LAC's Monitoring & Evaluation Officer. She is responsible for monitoring and assessing the impact of every investment according to E+Co’s triple bottom line. This includes regular visits within the region to collect the most accurate information on enterprises and to evaluate the real impact of E+Co investments. She started working for E+Co in 2001 as Office Manager. Her previous experience includes working for the Costa Rican Ministry of Foreign Affairs where she was responsible for ministerial and presidential meeting logistics among other administrative roles she fulfilled. Prior to that, she worked for Microsoft and Sykes Enterprises as Account Manager. Mrs. González holds a degree in International Relations from Universidad Autónoma de Centroamerica. She also completed courses on Human Resources and is currently studying a Masters Program in Environmental Management at Universidad Interamericana.

Cochabamba, Bolivia:

Gonzalo Rico Calderon, Regional Representative for South America, has a background in civil engineering, he has more than two decades of experience in the evaluation of primary energy resources, power systems planning, generation, transmission, distribution and rural electrification projects. He served as General Manager of Empresa Nacional de Electricidad S.A. in Bolivia. In this position, he directed the company, coordinated and developed its strategy with regards to electric service expansion, generation capacity, financing and execution, operational and maintenance policies and development of its human resources. His work has also included energy economics, project evaluation, energy project management and power sector institution building. He has been involved in sourcing financing from bilateral and multilateral agencies and negotiating bi-national projects. He has also experience in high head hydro power project development and equipment supply and construction contracting.

E+Co Brasil
Salvador, Bahia, Brazil:

Perpétua Matos, is E+Co Brazil's Monitoring and Evaluation Officer since January 2007. She was the former Brazil Office Manager for four years, using her eleven years experience in all administrative matters, policies and procedures. Mrs. Matos was responsible for carrying out operational tasks as well as organizing and coordinating activities, including managing day-to-day running of the office for four years and assisting two Investment Officers. Her previous experience includes working in a large paper mill were for three years she assisted the commercial director, as well as a free translator in a Hydrogen Plant Extension. Mrs. Matos is also fluent in English, French and Spanish. Mrs. Matos holds a Math and Science Teaching degree, and is current
studying Business Administration at the Unopar University/Salvador.
